Essential Oil Safety – Two Oily Ems

Using Oils Safely with Dogs

Safety Tips

Do not use near ears, eyes, nose or genitals

Only use pure certified therapeutic grade oils

Know your pet's health – if in doubt get advice from your vet or an holistic vet

Be cautious and get advice before using oils around animals that are pregnant, the young, senior or animals on certain medication and conditions

Watch your dog’s behaviour. If they show clear signs if they do not want an oil, respect their choice

All animals respond differently and some are more sensitive than others – if your dog is showing signs such as distress, drooling, panting, shaking, vomiting etc stop using the oil immediately and seek advice

If your pet has a reaction. Stop using the oil immediately and seek veterinary advice

ALWAYS Dilute with a carrier oil such as Fractionated Coconut Oil, Almond Oil or vegetable oil

Start with more dilution when using topically and add more if needed after

Always use less for smaller dogs/cats

If using topical medication or flea treatment do not apply oils topically after

Citrus oils are photosensitive so avoid sunlight or UV rays for up to 12 hours after applying

Be careful of skin sensitivities – if there is a reaction DO NOT use water. Dilute with a carrier oil -see above

Always use a water-based diffuser and preferably with an intermittent setting

Give your pet an exit from the room you are diffusing in and have the diffuser in a safe place out of reach from you pet

Start with 2-3 drops. Maximum 4-5 drops
